Welcome September
august has ended with both the feeling of the year spinning on without care and like a whole year was packed into those 31 days. the start of august felt like it flew by in a daze of people on social media lamenting the slow descent into autumn and the quiet end of summer. the wrap ups and the favourites video start to litter the algorithms and yet august has continued to roll on by. I finally saw my best friend after a year of him being away in another country. I had meet ups and family dinners and cousin hang outs and drinks on drinks on drinks and yet it has felt like all of that has happened over the course of a few months instead of being packed so tightly into one person’s schedule. and then September came on the back of a kind of manic cleaning spree in my parents house while they were away and it settled nicely on a Monday. and so autumn begins or late summer, whichever you prefer. in this part of the world, so begins our rainy season. cloudy days. heavy rains. the temperature a bit more bearable for those of us who run perpetually warm.
august was filled with sushi and conversations about synaesthesia. about laughter at the dinner table with family as we drank bottle after bottle of wine and then moved onto rum (we do like a good drink in this big family of mine). it was watching a lovely friend get married from miles and miles away. Her laughter and joy being carried to me through instagram stories. it was pulling myself out of a reading slump by the bootstraps only to descend into madness by reading two utterly boring stories back to back to end of my august. it was playing Olivia Dean and Florence and the Machine on repeat. it was finishing little crafting projects to send to my little loves all the way over in Sydney. buying new book releases and planning out a sexy little September TBR. it was watching one spring onion plant die while another thrived, and waiting everyday for my dad’s avocado to sprout (any day now!). and so comes September.
a new month. my birthday month. the day everyone starts wearing coats and blazers and jackets in the parts of the world that get that drop in temperature. It is when mooncake season starts here and the mid autumn festival kicks off. maybe there will be new craft projects. there will certainly be more books (hopefully good ones this time). more cousin hang outs with endless laughter as our decibels get higher and higher. more walks and more walks in the rain. September. the start of the ber months, or the start of Christmas season if you are my best friend. maybe September will come with that little bit more of something new and a delicious spiced rum to wash it all down.

T Kingfisher as a human being. Please never stop writing books. Her Paladin Series is a firm favourite.
Cross stitching. very meditative although I somehow seem to hunch like a little gremlin when I cross stitch. But cross stitching while listening to an audiobook. Chef’s kiss. muah.
Whatever spiced rum my cousin had in his house, that all the wine aunts (me and my other cousins) demolished. Yes. thank you, more of that please.
September Hopefuls:
